It's amazing what you can do with a box from the pantry, especially when it has used up its usefulness. In this one particular project, students took a box and created a three-dimensional right triangle. They then measured the legs and hypotenuse, used the Pythagorean Theorem to verify the length of the hypotenuse, and calculated the measures of the acute angles using trigonometry - sine, cosine, and tangent. All of their data was put onto spreadsheets on the classroom computers; no printing was needed and the projects were graded from that computer screen. So, not only did we use "treasureable trash" for the initial project, students also went "green" in submitting the project!
